Sounds of tinnitus

Not all head noise is the same

Everyone hears these foreign ear noises as a different sound in the head.

The sounds of tinnitus can be best described as ringing in the ears, or roaring, buzzing, hissing, chirping, whistling, or other irritating auditory experiences when there is no external cause for any of this constant ear noise.

Some people hear a more complex sound in the ear that not only vary over time, but vary with small and large changes in their local environment.  The sounds of tinnitus may be intermittent, continuous, or pulsate with the heart beat. Tinnitus sounds can vary with stress of various types, with the level of the blood pressure, with degrees of dehydration, and with personal biochemistry that is altered by disease. A pulsating sound may occur because of blocked circulation near the inner ear, or a ballooned or bulged blood vessel (known as an aneurysm), a tumor within a blood vessel, or circulatory disorders that affect the thickness, density and strength of the blood vessel wall.

Noises in your ears can vary greatly in loudness, dependent on individual physiology that changes over time. It is often worse when background noise is low or when there is little to distraction from the ear sounds, as when trying to fall asleep in a quiet room.

Surrounding sounds contribute to sounds of tinnitus

For the greater part of human history, before the industrial age, most people lived with the simple and gentle sounds of nature. The majority of the day was spent listening to the singing of birds and humming insects, rustling of leaves on trees, or the movement of water nearby. These sounds tend to fall into the high frequency range, and these sounds are more “natural” for the ear to hear.

Often, a person was not confined to a small space, since most did agricultural and outside work or moved about outdoors a major part of a day. Only a few people spent their day exposed to loud noises or in a confined space. Thus, the human ear was developed over time in a more quiet and gentle atmosphere that did not stress the hearing as it is today.

With industrial development and factories, and the machinery of the modern age, people are constantly bombarded with loud and constant noise – sometimes more and sometimes less, but it is difficult to go somewhere and not hear a background noise in a developed country. In cities we are constantly exposed to auto and air traffic noises, lawnmowers, TVs and radios, loud music and the noise of continual conversation all around us, plus the countless noise of civilization. But, noise itself is not the problem; the problem is that modern noises tend to be in the low frequency range. Thus, people spend much more time with industrial and modern low frequency noise sources and have little chance to be exposed to nature’s high frequency sounds.

Even those who are office-bound have this same problem. Office workers listen to the dull hum of computers and other dozens of electronic devices within ear shot, the constant buzz and oscillation of fluorescent lights, and grinding sound of air conditioners and related comfort devices – all of these give off unnatural and harmful low frequency sounds. It is unlikely these low frequency sounds can start the sounds of tinnitus in the head, but often they can aggravate it or serve as the trigger that started the cascade of sounds in the head.

If you find you are surrounded by unnatural and irritating low frequency sound, it might be a reason for those sounds of tinnitus you cannot leave behind.  It is far more ideal to exposure your hearing to a full range of both high and low frequency sounds so all of the ear’s auditory receptors are regularly stimulated and activated to maintain in peak condition.

Protect your hearing from loud noise and low frequency noise – especially loud low frequency noise, and the hearing of your loved ones, with cotton or foam earplugs, commercial hearing protectors, or your hands when you are going to be exposed to loud and or constant noise.  Treat your ear noise problems with the many effective natural tinnitus remedies you find on this site.  Investigate the idea of a natural cure for tinnitus the TTI way.

The sounds of tinnitus often start with the sounds we hear on a daily basis – be careful what ear sounds you let in.
